1. Is LASIK surgery safe?

Yes. The risks of LASIK are greatly reduced through careful patient selection and pre-operative testing using the latest diagnostic technology.

2. Am I a suitable candidate?

A detailed eye examination is required to determine the candidacy of LASIK.
These general requisites must also be met:
• Adult above the age of 18
• Healthy eyes with stable vision
• Must not be pregnant or nursing
• Sufficient corneal thickness with no signs of keratoconus

3. Can laser eye surgery correct my astigmatism as well?

Yes, LASIK treatment can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

4. Is there an age limit for laser eye surgery?

Candidates over 55 years old may want to consider refractive lens exchange as an alternative treatment.

5. How long does the LASIK procedure take?
  How long should I expect to be at the centre on the day of my surgery?

The procedure itself takes less than 10 minutes. However, you should expect to be at the clinic for at least 2 to 3 hours.

6. What are the Do’s and Don’ts post LASIK surgery?

Do’s
- Use provided eye shields when you are sleeping.
- Use eye drops as advised.
- Return for regular check-ups.
Don’t’s
- Do not use make up around the eye area.
- Do not rub your eyes and avoid swimming, sauna and facial treatments for a month.

7. Is LASIK surgery painful?

LASIK is typically a near-painless procedure. Surgery is performed under local anesthetic eye drops to numb the eyes and reduce discomfort.

8. What should I expect on the day of my surgery?

i.  Before the procedure, anesthetic eye drops will be used to numb the cornea and an eyelid holder will be placed on your lids to reduce blinking.
ii.  Firstly, a flap consisting thin corneal tissue is created. At this point, you will feel a slight pressure on the eye.
iii.  You will then be asked to look at a fixation of light as the Excimer Laser is directed to the eye to reshape the cornea.
iv.  The cornea flap is then repositioned into place.

9. Can I go blind?

With the new and improved technology of today, there have been no reported cases of blindness.

10. Are there any side effects?

Temporary side effects such as dry eyes, glares and halos are commonly experienced during the first week of surgery. However, most of it will subside over time.

11. Will I need regular check-ups after undergoing LASIK surgery?

Yes. We typically see patients at the following intervals: next day, one week, one month, three months and six months.

12. Will I need to pay for treatment if I experience power regression in the future?
