Our Milestones

1995

• Incorporated on 5 January 1995.
• Carried out the first Photo-Refractive Keratectomy (PRK) treatments.

1999

• Introduced LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomieusis) treatments.

2000

• 2^nd branch set up in Hospital UKM, Cheras. The first Eye Specialist Centre in Malaysia to have strategic alliances with a government hospital.
• 3^rd branch set up in Penang.
• Shifted headquarters to Bangunan AHP, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail and officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

2001

• 4^th branch set up in Johor Bahru.
• First Eye Specialist Centre to be awarded ISO 9001:2000 Certificate on Refractive Surgery. To date, OPTIMAX is still the only Eye Specialist Centre with ISO certification.
• Introduced LASEK (Laser-Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratectomy) which is a surface ablation for those with very thin corneas or high refractive errors.

2003

• Awarded the Most Outstanding SME at the Golden Bull Awards.
• Introduced Wavefront guided (Customised) LASIK procedures.

2004

• 5^th branch set up in Shah Alam and officiated by Dato’ Seri Rafidah Aziz.
• 6^th branch and communication office set up in Syuen Hotel, Ipoh.
• The first to introduce Epi-LASIK treatments for thin cornea patients.

2005

• 7^th branch set up in Sabah.
• “10 Eye-Catching Years” was officiated by Datuk Dr. Leo Michael Toyad in conjunction with OPTIMAX’s 10^th Anniversary celebrations and to promote health tourism.
• Awarded the Most Outstanding SME Golden Bull Award for 2 consecutive years.
• Introduced the latest technology with Intralase FS-30.
• Started R&D for the innovative laser PAL/Multifocal correction PAC (Pseudo-Accommodative Correction) for treating presbyopia (old-age reading problem).

2006

• The first to introduce Tecnis Lens for Phaco Emulsification surgery.

2007

• 8^th branch set up in Kuching.

2008

• Awarded the SMEs Best Brand Award “The Brand Laureate”, the Grammy Awards for Branding.
• Consecutively opened in Malaysia and in Singapore.

2009

• 16^th branch set up in Brunei.
• Moved Ipoh branch to a new centre in February.
• Successfully treated over 70,000 satisfied patients.
